Lamentations 3.  “Nothing New?” Sunday January 1, 2017, 11am

Our good friend Solomon says there is nothing new under the sun.

Ec 1:9 ¶ The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

 Ec 1:10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

However, Solomon is talking about the things we do, GOD can create spiritual newness for us every day.

 GOD assures us that his mercies are new every morning.

22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

So instead of trying to come with a plan for the new year to change or reinvigorate our earthly activities,  let us change or reinvigorate our spiritual activities that will bring new mercies each day.

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Those that stay faithful until the end, will be part of,  the most blessed new creation, where everything will be wonderfully new;

Re 21:1 ¶ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Jeremiah laments his countries desperate plight, while all the time, telling how terrible are the conditions for his country and for him; then thinks back how GOD has always been with him. No matter how great the sin and how far away we feel from GOD, the Lord’s mercies are new each morning for those who turn again unto the Lord.

  1. The terrible affliction that has descended on Jeremiah. 1-19
  2. Hope is always there for GOD’s mercies are new every morning. 20-23
  3. It is good for a person to follow the commands of the Lord. 24-38
  4. Let us examine our ways and return unto the Lord. 39-41
  5. May GOD bless you with his grace and peace multiplied in the new year and forever
