Ephesians4. “Follow the Word”  Sunday October 2, 2016, 11am

We accomplish unity by following the word of GOD. Everything that we are supposed to do in life can be summed up in “Follow the word of GOD”. Not only will we have unity when we follow the word of GOD, but accomplish so much more, we will be filled with the Holy Spirit,  love GOD, neighbor, stay close to GOD, more Christ like, Etc. Do not make Christianity, or life complicated, Life is simple, Christianity is simple, just follow the word of GOD.

But unity is a fragile thing. We are not following the word, If it only takes one small, almost insignificant problem, like a harsh word spoken at the wrong time; one instance of ignoring another person who needs to be noticed; one time of looking harshly with your eyes; or one time of bringing a word of criticism when we should have kept our mouth shut. All of us have a tendency to let our tongue speak while our brain is still in neutral. I love that old saying that says, “Caution – Be Sure Brain is in Gear Before Putting Mouth Into Motion.”

Let us know, that once we become a Christian, there is a certain way to live. Paul tells us in Ephesians to walk worthy of our calling. Eph 2:10  10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Jesus tells us in Matt 5: 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. These two scriptures can be summed up how? Follow the word of GOD.

We do not love and obey GOD to get blessings, he has blessed us already in many ways and for that we love and obey GOD. The most important blessing of grace that must be kept before us at all times is the death on the cross of his son Jesus for our sins.

The greatest need of the church is to have unity in doctrine. We have many different people with different thoughts and wants, but we should all be in agreement on the basic truths of the scriptures.  The scriptures mention several gifts of grace that the Holy Spirit makes available to us for unity in the church.

These gifts of grace, under the power of the Holy Spirit, that provide for unity in the church are: humility,  meekness, longsuffering, forbearance, endeavoring, the bond of peace.

Christians, practicing gifts of grace, which means we are under the power of the Holy Spirit will provide unity and harmony in the church. People from all walks of life can join in the praising of GOD, gaining knowledge of the scriptures, and  reaching the lost.
